About: Forget making shapes to counts; in this class, we will make music become kinetic and visual. Explored through the lens of a musician, the embodiment of a fusion of jazz-related styles serves as the basis for investigating rhythmic complexity, dynamics and audio-driven improvisation. A kickin’ soundtrack accompanies movement explorations that ask dancers to invest their personality into becoming the sound. No jazz hands; just raw, expressive and connected music-driven dance! Producing, Choreographing and Performing in: Rhythmically Speaking 2014
When: August 14-16 @ 8pm Where: The Southern Theater
About: On August 14-16 at the Southern Theater, seven dynamic choreographers will offer the community seven different ideas for synthesizing many styles of complicated rhythm into dance. Bound together by an unquenchable interest in rhythm as an excellent basis for the fusion of multiple ideas and identities, Rhythmically Speaking 2014 features forward-thinking local choreographers/ groups Karla Grotting, Bboy J-Sun, Erinn Liebhard, Christine Maginnis, Joanne Spencer and Voice of Culture Drum and Dance, and welcomes visitor Michele Dunleavy from Pennsylvania.
